The September Letter
Twelve new titles in August, a step railing for a neighbor, twelve hours at the smokers for seminarians — and what we are working on now.

Dear Christ Bearers,
Every month we set out to do two things: put good books into your hands, and put our hands to work for our neighbors. August turned out to be a big month for both, and we wanted to tell you about it.
Twelve new titles went live. Here is what they were.
St. John Bosco on St. Vincent de Paul, in English for the first time in a long while.
St. Vincent de Paul was the priest who decided that pity was not enough. Seventeenth-century France was full of people moved by the poor; Vincent was the one who organized the response — founding the Congregation of the Mission and, with St. Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity, and building the structures that fed foundlings, galley slaves, and whole villages long after the feeling had passed. His followers named five virtues as the marrow of his life: simplicity, humility, meekness, mortification, and zeal. Not one of them is a feeling. Every one of them is a habit you can practice on a Tuesday.
St. John Bosco wrote this book in Turin in 1848, while running an oratory for boys who had come to the city looking for work and found very little of it. He published it anonymously. What he wanted his readers to see was that Vincent had been holy in every social condition he passed through — among the poorest and among the powerful — and that virtue and ordinary decency belong together rather than apart. That is why the title joins them. Bosco was teaching boys with nothing that holiness and good bearing were the same road, not two.
The book gives you a short meditation for each day of a month, and each one ends the way Bosco ended everything: with something to actually do. He called it the fruit. That is the part that will find you out.
We publish it because most of us will never be asked to do something extraordinary. We will be asked to do ordinary things — a meal carried, a phone call returned, a name remembered — and the whole question of a Christian life is whether those are done in God’s grace and for His merit, or merely out of our own goodwill. Vincent’s answer was that no work is small when it is done for Christ and finished for Him. That is what turns an ordinary task into a saintly one. And it is what pushes you past the people who are easy to love, out to the margins, where Christ waits to be recognized in someone the world has stopped looking at. Bosco put that within reach of boys who owned nothing and had been told that sanctity belonged to somebody else. It is still within reach. That is why the book is in print again.

Most of us mean to pray more than we do. Not from indifference — from Tuesdays. These books are built for that problem: one page a day, tied to what the Church is already celebrating that month, so your prayer moves with the liturgical year instead of starting over every time you begin again. Most of us keep our calendar in one place and our faith in another, and the calendar usually wins. The Companion puts them on the same page: your appointments, your intentions, and the month’s devotion together, so that what you mean to pray about is sitting right next to what you have to do. September is the month of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, and this edition is built around her. It is on sale now in paperback and hardcover, alongside Compañero Portador de Cristo — Septiembre 2026 — and September has only just started, so you have not missed it.
While our publishing side continues to accelerate in spreading the word, we ultimately do this to bear Christ in deed as well. Evangelizing the faith costs real work, and our faith demands taking up Christ’s yoke through discipleship and charity. And while this side is growing at a smaller pace currently, we cannot have one side without the other.
We built a step railing. A single mother in our community has trouble with her ankle and leg, and her front steps had become a daily obstacle between her and her own house. We donated the lumber, brought a saw, and built her a railing. It took a Saturday. It gives her back every day after that.
We smoked Boston butts for seminarians. We joined the fundraiser, donated money for the food, and tended the smokers for twelve hours. It helped raise $1,700 for the men studying for the priesthood. Slow work, long hours, good company, and a real result — the Church’s future priests cost real money to form, and somebody has to pay for it. We were honored to be a part of it, and we look forward to the continued fruit this will provide for our Diocese.
In the workshop
- St. Isidore. We have begun a translation of one of the great gatherers of the Church’s learning — a man who tried to hold the whole inheritance of Christian knowledge together while the world around him came apart. He deserves a readable English edition, and he has not had one.

In the neighborhood
- This month we are feeding the homeless — 150 meals for those who are struggling and overlooked in our area. We assemble the meals at the church and drive them out to where the need is. It takes real time and effort, but what it gives the people who receive it is worth far more than what it costs us.
- We are helping an elderly widow with her yardwork. Another Saturday, another set of hands, another neighbor who does not have to worry about how they will keep their yard from overtaking their peace.
Please note that we are continuing to build our foundation and work toward bearing Christ for those in need. All proceeds from book sales go toward this effort, and nothing is wasted. Currently all we ask is that you spread the word about our work, provide feedback, and continue to pray for us until we can open an avenue that can accept more. This small group truly loves bearing Christ to others, and we are thankful He allows us to work in His grace for His merit.

Queridos portadores de Cristo:
Cada mes nos proponemos dos cosas: poner buenos libros en sus manos y poner nuestras manos a trabajar por nuestros vecinos. Agosto resultó ser un mes grande para ambas, y queríamos contárselo.
Salieron doce títulos nuevos. Esto es lo que fueron.
San Juan Bosco sobre san Vicente de Paúl, en inglés por primera vez en mucho tiempo.
San Vicente de Paúl fue el sacerdote que decidió que la compasión no bastaba. La Francia del siglo XVII estaba llena de personas conmovidas por los pobres; Vicente fue quien organizó la respuesta: fundó la Congregación de la Misión y, con santa Luisa de Marillac, las Hijas de la Caridad, y levantó las estructuras que alimentaron a expósitos, galeotes y aldeas enteras mucho después de que el sentimiento hubiera pasado. Sus seguidores señalaron cinco virtudes como la médula de su vida: sencillez, humildad, mansedumbre, mortificación y celo. Ninguna de ellas es un sentimiento. Cada una es un hábito que se puede practicar un martes.
San Juan Bosco escribió este libro en Turín en 1848, mientras dirigía un oratorio para muchachos que habían llegado a la ciudad buscando trabajo y habían encontrado muy poco. Lo publicó de forma anónima. Lo que quería que sus lectores vieran era que Vicente había sido santo en todas las condiciones sociales por las que pasó —entre los más pobres y entre los poderosos— y que la virtud y la decencia ordinaria van juntas y no separadas. Por eso el título las une. Bosco enseñaba a muchachos que no tenían nada que la santidad y el buen trato eran el mismo camino, y no dos.
El libro ofrece una meditación breve para cada día del mes, y cada una termina como Bosco terminaba todo: con algo que hacer de verdad. Lo llamaba el fruto. Esa es la parte que lo pone a uno en evidencia.
Lo publicamos porque a la mayoría nunca se nos pedirá hacer algo extraordinario. Se nos pedirá hacer cosas ordinarias —una comida llevada, una llamada devuelta, un nombre recordado— y toda la cuestión de la vida cristiana está en si se hacen en la gracia de Dios y para su mérito, o simplemente por nuestra propia buena voluntad. La respuesta de Vicente fue que ninguna obra es pequeña cuando se hace por Cristo y se termina para Él. Eso es lo que convierte una tarea ordinaria en una tarea de santo. Y es lo que nos empuja más allá de las personas fáciles de amar, hacia los márgenes, donde Cristo espera ser reconocido en alguien a quien el mundo ha dejado de mirar. Bosco puso eso al alcance de muchachos que no poseían nada y a quienes se les había dicho que la santidad pertenecía a otros. Sigue estando al alcance. Por eso el libro vuelve a estar impreso.

La mayoría queremos rezar más de lo que rezamos. No por indiferencia, sino por los martes. Estos libros están hechos para ese problema: una página al día, unida a lo que la Iglesia ya celebra ese mes, para que la oración avance con el año litúrgico en vez de empezar de cero cada vez. La mayoría guardamos el calendario en un lugar y la fe en otro, y suele ganar el calendario. El Companion los pone en la misma página: sus compromisos, sus intenciones y la devoción del mes juntos, de modo que aquello por lo que quiere rezar esté justo al lado de lo que tiene que hacer. Septiembre es el mes de los Siete Dolores de María, y esta edición está construida en torno a ella. Ya está a la venta en edición impresa y tapa dura, junto con Compañero Portador de Cristo — Septiembre 2026, y septiembre apenas ha comenzado, así que no se lo ha perdido.
Mientras nuestra labor editorial sigue acelerando en la difusión de la palabra, en última instancia hacemos esto para llevar a Cristo también en obras. Evangelizar la fe cuesta trabajo real, y nuestra fe exige tomar el yugo de Cristo mediante el discipulado y la caridad. Y aunque este lado crece por ahora a un ritmo menor, no podemos tener uno sin el otro.
Construimos un pasamanos. Una madre soltera de nuestra comunidad tiene problemas en el tobillo y la pierna, y los escalones de su entrada se habían convertido en un obstáculo diario entre ella y su propia casa. Donamos la madera, llevamos una sierra y le construimos un pasamanos. Nos tomó un sábado. A ella le devuelve todos los días siguientes.
Ahumamos carne para los seminaristas. Nos unimos a la colecta, donamos dinero para la comida y atendimos los ahumadores durante doce horas. Ayudó a recaudar $1,700 para los hombres que estudian para el sacerdocio. Trabajo lento, horas largas, buena compañía y un resultado real: formar a los futuros sacerdotes de la Iglesia cuesta dinero de verdad, y alguien tiene que pagarlo. Fue un honor participar, y esperamos el fruto que esto seguirá dando a nuestra diócesis.

- San Isidoro. Hemos comenzado la traducción de uno de los grandes recopiladores del saber de la Iglesia: un hombre que intentó sostener toda la herencia del conocimiento cristiano mientras el mundo a su alrededor se deshacía. Merece una edición inglesa legible, y no la ha tenido.

En el vecindario
- Este mes estamos alimentando a personas sin hogar: 150 comidas para quienes pasan necesidad y son pasados por alto en nuestra zona. Preparamos las comidas en la parroquia y las llevamos hasta donde está la necesidad. Cuesta tiempo y esfuerzo reales, pero lo que da a quienes las reciben vale mucho más de lo que nos cuesta.
- Estamos ayudando a una viuda anciana con el trabajo de su jardín. Otro sábado, otro par de manos, otra vecina que no tiene que preocuparse por cómo evitar que su jardín invada su paz.
Tengan en cuenta que seguimos construyendo nuestra base y trabajando para llevar a Cristo a quienes lo necesitan. Todos los beneficios de la venta de libros se destinan a este esfuerzo, y nada se desperdicia. Por ahora sólo pedimos que difundan nuestra obra, nos den su opinión y sigan rezando por nosotros hasta que podamos abrir una vía que permita recibir más. Este pequeño grupo ama de verdad llevar a Cristo a los demás, y damos gracias porque Él nos permite trabajar en su gracia y para su mérito.
